Depending on the media channels that you frequent, you will have come across all the labels that define when you were born;
- Greatest Generation (born circa 1922 to 1927)
- Silent Generation (circa 1928 to 1945)
- Baby Boomers (circa 1946 to 1964)
- Generation X (circa 1965 to 1980)
- Millennial Generation (circa 1981 to 1996)
- Generation Z (circa 1997 to 2012)
- Generation Alpha (circa 2013 to 2022).
However, when it comes to Antiques, Vintage, Retro or Ancient , exactly what time scale is the norm.
Antiques usually mean anything older then 100yrs +
Vintage is anything older then 40yrs
Retro is 20yrs
And Ancient is exactly that…. 2000 – 5000yrs old.
So now you know!
At Ted’s Curios, we try to save as many vintage to antique items as possible.
Antiques at this time are usually family heirlooms that have been passed down through the generations. Sadly sometimes those generations stop or diversify to such an extent that bloodlines become lost.
Vintage are items that you may have collected over the years. Some of us still think 20yrs ago is 1980! However, that would now be in the Vintage time zone; Cabbage Patch dolls. Teenage Turtles. Star Wars. KnightRider.
So, grab a torch, some ladders, and start seeing what you may have packed and hidden up in the loft.
